History
The Boys & Girls Club of Carson (BGCC) opened its doors at 21502 South Main Street in 1992 to 100 kids to participate in a safe, structured and positive environment after school, during holidays and summer vacation.

Membership at the Club costs $5.00 per year and our hours of operation are from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. five days a week.  Across the street is a beautiful park with a pool that our members have access to during the summer.

For a $20 weekly fee, we pick up our members from schools in the surrounding areas.  In 2004, we began providing after school programming for children at the Carson Street Elementary School, made possible through a grant from the Los Angeles Unified School District in support of the 21st Century Learning program.  Today, we serve 500 children daily at seven sites, including five local schools.

Who We Serve

The BGCC serves over 1,400 youth from the City of Carson attending elementary schools such as Ambler, Annalee, Bonita, Broadacres Avenue, Leapwood, Delores, Catskill, Caroldale, Carson, Philomena, and middle schools such as Carnegie, Curtis, and Steven White.

The youth we serve reflects the diversity of the Carson community.  Membership last year included 49% Hispanic, 31% African American, 15% Asian/Pacific Islander, 3% Caucasian,  and 2% Other.  The majority of our youth are economically disadvantaged.  Last year, 64% of our members were from households considered to be low or very low income according to federal guidelines.
