PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

Core Programs

 

Youth arrive at our Main Street Unit at 2:00 and can stay until 7:00 p.m. five days a week. 
 
The following school sites are open until 6:00 p.m. five days a week:
  • Bonita Street Elementary
  • Towne Avenue Elementary
  • Carson High School
The staff provides a variety of activities, with a focus on academic achievement for all members and job readiness for the teens.  The Homework Club takes place immediately after school and youth are able to complete their assignments, meet with a tutor, if necessary; and after that time, they are free to participate in other activities, including those listed below. 

 

  • Health & Life Skills develops members’ capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their well-being:
    • Smart Moves: Teaches children (aged 6 to 10) life and decision-making skills and builds self-esteem 
  • Character and Leadership Development empowers youth to support and influence their Club and community, develop a positive self-image and sustain meaningful relationships:
    • Tomorrow’s Leaders: Consists of a ten-week, repeated program to train and develop tomorrow’s leaders by focusing on academics, social/recreational pursuits, and computer technology training.
    • Leaders in Training: Provides 10-25 teens weekly opportunities to learn leadership skills by helping children with schoolwork, community service, and career planning.
    • Torch Club: Provides opportunities to build leadership skills through community service for youth aged 11 to 13.
    • Ultimate Journey: Teaches youth about environmental issues through group activities, community service projects, and field trips.
    • Toys for the Holidays: Youth in the Leaders in Training program collect toys as the price of admission at Magic Mountain and give them to the under-privileged children at the Club Christmas Party.

 

  • Sports, Fitness and Recreation encompasses all major forms of team sports as well as track and field, board games, cheer/dance club, flag drill team, special events and fitness skills:
    • Summer Swimming:  Youth walk across the street to the local park and participate in swimming three days a week.
    • Basketball :  outdoor court at Club site allows for recreational play.

 

  • The Arts enables youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness:
    • Arts & Crafts takes place on a daily basis

 

  • Education and Career Development enables youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines and apply learning to everyday situations:
    • Power Hour After-School Program: Provides homework assistance and tutorial services to up to 65 children per day after school.
    • 21st Century Learning Center Program: Provides up to 107 youth per day at the Carson Street Elementary School with enhanced educational and recreational services.
    • Club Tech: Offers youth of all ages and circumstances access to technology and equipping them with the resources and skills to perform better in school, and eventually, the workplace. Programming includes basic computer skills in fun and age-appropriate online courseware; Internet safety skills through engaging multimedia activities and offline interaction with Club professionals; Digital Arts focuses on members’ creativity in five areas: Web design, graphic design, photo illustration, music making and movie making.
    • Mega Byte Program: Provides basic computer literacy classes for teens and ESL adults annually.

 

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

 

Ø      Transportation Services: Provides after-school pick-up and transportation to the Club from ten Carson-area schools for 35 students per week.

Ø      Club Christmas Party: Provides a visit with Santa, a photograph, and a toy for 400 under-privileged children.
