07 May Club Dance Team Takes Home 1st Place in Regional Competition
Healthy Lifestyles programs develop the capacity of kids and teens to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, help them set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
For Edwin Markham Middle School dance team, dance is not just a word, but a way of life.
The Dancing Eagles were founded in 2016 by six members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson at Edwin Markham Middle School in Compton, CA. In this space, members use dance as an avenue to express themselves through different methods of dance (belly dancing, hip-hop, cheer, African) to not only improve and overcome their own struggles, but to uplift others to do the same.
For the first time, the Dancing Eagles took their talents to the competition mat at the Beyond the Bell Winter Dance Competition sponsored by the Los Angeles Unified School District. To their surprise, the Dancing Eagles took home the 1st place trophy.
At the Club, we are helping kids build healthy habits that will last a lifetime, but we can’t do it alone. We are currently looking for volunteer dance instructors and performance opportunities to help the Eagles share their message with the community.
