In collaboration with Apple, Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson (BGCC) is offering coding and creativity programming, helping prepare Carson youth for careers of today and tomorrow and equipping them with critical workforce skills, including problem solving and teamwork. “At Apple, education is in our DNA—and we know technology can open doors to new opportunities and give students the tools to pursue their dreams,” said Stacy Erb, director of Apple’s Community Education Initiative. “We’re thrilled to continue supporting the incredible work taking place at Boys & Girls Clubs across the U.S. to help inspire creativity and prepare today’s young people with the skills they need to succeed in cutting-edge careers.
”This program has really shown us just how much coding and creativity can spark something special in kids, shared Emilie Navarro, S.T.E.M. Coordinator at BGCC. “It’s not just about teaching tech skills; it’s about building confidence, helping them think in new ways, and giving them another way to express themselves.”
In December 2021, Apple announced it was teaming up with Boys & Girls Clubs in more than a dozen U.S cities to bring coding with Swift to tens of thousands of students across the country. Since then, BGCC has launched new programming for local youth, including after-school and summer learning opportunities. Participants use iPads and Apple’s coding and creativity resources to gain new skills, explore art and design, and pursue their passions. This past month, BGCC members from the Main Street Clubhouse and Bonita Street Elementary had the opportunity to showcase their digital art as a part of the Everyone Can Create program. These artists put produced original art and animation using the Notes, Keynote, Freeform, iMovie and Clips apps on Apple iPads. These resources were also made available at BGCC’s annual STEM Day, where attendees and participants were able to tap into creativity.
This summer, BGCC is launching a hands-on, immersive learning experience where summer camp students will continue with the Everyone Can Create program, diving into fun, interactive projects that bring their ideas to life. Each week, a trained facilitator will visit club sites to lead sessions, making sure more youth get the chance to explore creative expression through technology. Whether it’s photography, animation, or music-making, students will discover exciting new ways to engage with learning while unleashing their creativity through innovative tools and activities.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson’s collaboration with Apple is part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America Innovate, an initiative dedicated to bringing coding and creativity programming to Clubs across the U.S. and Germany. To date, this initiative has engaged hundreds of educators and served more than 15,000 young people.
