Organizations Across Los Angeles County Ready to Provide Safe, Enriching Spaces for Students
Los Angeles, CA – As the Los Angeles Unified School District faces the possibility of a teacher strike that could leave hundreds of thousands of students without school-based supervision, Boys & Girls Clubs across Los Angeles County are ready to open their doors and provide safe, supportive spaces for kids and teens.
This network of local nonprofits stands prepared to serve as a critical resource for working families. Local Clubs are embedded in LA communities, ready to support families with convenient access to care during any disruption to the school day.
“When school is closed, our doors remain open. A potential strike does not change our commitment to families. Boys & Girls Clubs of Los Angeles County has long been a reliable support for our community, and we stand ready to welcome young people with safe spaces, caring staff, and enriching activities,” said Pete Settlemayer Chief Executive Officer at Boys & Girls Clubs of LA Harbor.
“Our kids’ needs don’t pause when the schedule changes, and neither do Clubs.”
Boys & Girls Clubs across LA County offer a wide range of programming for kids and teens, including academic support, arts, athletics, career readiness, and college preparation programming. Time spent at the Club is enriching and inspiring, offering lessons that build on what kids are learning in school.
In the event of a strike, Boys & Girls Clubs will provide academic programming, tutoring, and homework help—in addition to meals and time to play. Structured programming will support kids with consistency, growth, and care while schools are closed.
Clubs are offering full-day care tuition-free or at a low cost for families.
Families seeking care during a potential work stoppage are encouraged to contact their local Boys & Girls Club as soon as possible to confirm hours, availability, and any registration requirements. Find your local Boys & Girls Club at bgclacounty.com.
