Meet Kaliah & Khalila

When Myla’s twin girls Kaliah and Khalila were six years old, she enrolled them in the Main Street Clubhouse summer program. As a single mother, Myla needed an affordable, safe program where her children could go while she was at work. Many programs were either too expensive, too far away or did not offer transportation. Fast forward four years later and Kaliah and Khalila can be found at the Clubhouse year-round!  They attend a local elementary school and through our transportation program are brought to the Clubhouse after school.

The girls receive homework help and love doing arts and crafts projects with our Clubhouse Director Maria Valdivinos or as the kids call her, Ms. Maria.  Recently Kaliah and Khalila came home and told their mother they were learning about bullying.  When Myla inquired further, she discovered the girls were learning what it means to be a good citizen and how important it is to treat people kindly.  

Myla says, “I like how staff are intentional in what they teach.  They make sure my girls’ emotional development is taken into consideration.”
